Irina Rozovsky

Irina Rozovsky , American, b. 1981, Moscow, Soviet Union

Rozovsky is a contemporary American photographer known for her lyric, light-filled, and atmospheric street and landscape photography. Her work frequently blends observational documentary traditions with a deeply personal, interior sensitivity.

Born in Moscow, Rozovsky immigrated to the United States as a child. She earned a BA in French and Spanish from Tufts University before pursuing an MFA in photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Rozovsky captures everyday scenes, public parks, and transitional landscapes, transforming external environments into emotional, psychological states. Her work is characterized by a sensitive use of natural sunlight, subtle color palettes, and an ability to uncover moments of quiet grace, intimacy, and tension within public spaces.

Key Publications & Projects:

• One to Nothing (Kehrer, 2011): Her debut monograph, which explores the mythic and everyday complexities of the Israeli landscape.
• Island in my Mind (Verlag Kettler, 2015): A lyrical study of life along the shores of Brooklyn's Prospect Park Lake.
• In Plain Air (MACK, 2021): Perhaps her most widely celebrated monograph, compiling years of medium-format color photographs taken inside Prospect Park. The book functions as a pastoral portrait of urban refuge, community, and leisure in modern New York City.
• Insieme (Chose Commune, 2023): A collaborative project created alongside her husband, photographer Mark Steinmetz.

Alongside her art practice, Rozovsky co-runs The Humid, an independent photography project space and workshop program based in Athens, Georgia, which she operates with Mark Steinmetz. Her photographs are held in major public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
