Jeff Burton (b. 1963, Anaheim, California) is an American photographer known for his distinct approach to intimacy, desire, and spatial composition. Educated at Texas Christian University (BFA) and CalArts (MFA), Burton first gained widespread critical recognition in the late 1990s through work informed by his position as a still photographer on adult film sets in Los Angeles. Rather than documenting the explicit action directly, Burton uses tight cropping, shallow depth of field, and fragmenting reflections to isolate peripheral detailsa discarded garment, a flexed limb, ambient domestic architecture, transforming narrative encounters into formalist abstractions.

Burton’s aesthetic balances cinematic atmosphere with a precise study of light, texture, and color fields. His work operates in the space between voyeurism and detachment, subverting standard photographic tropes by treating human subjects and inanimate background props with identical graphic scrutiny. This tension between high art and subcultural intimacy extends across his monograph Dreamland (2001) as well as his commercial and editorial projects.
