Uwe Wittwer (born 1954 in Zurich, Switzerland) is a contemporary Swiss artist whose multifaceted practice spans oil painting, watercolor, charcoal drawing, inkjet printing, and glass works. Operating as an investigative "image hunter", Wittwer explores themes of memory, history, authenticity, and optical perception by sourcing, filtering, and reinterpreting archival material and digital imagery found online.

His work frequently references Old Master paintings, historical genre scenes, still lifes, and domestic interiors, translating them into a haunting, atmospheric visual language characterized by blurred edges, atmospheric diffusions, and delicate tonal shifts. By mining pre-existing images and historical records, Wittwer investigates how collective memory is mediated, distorted, and preserved across time.

Wittwer’s work has been the subject of extensive international exhibitions and is held in prominent public collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Kunsthaus Zürich, the Kunstmuseum Bern, and the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht.
