Hoboken Ferry Terminal, Barclay Street, New York (1935) is famous image from Abbott’s Federal Art Project series, Changing New York (1935–1939).
The photograph documents the Manhattan-side ferry slip for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad ferries, located at Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan. Unlike the West 23rd Street terminal image, which captured the Midtown waterfront, this image depicts the bustling Downtown transit point where commuters and freight transferred from New Jersey passenger lines directly into Lower Manhattan’s financial and commercial districts.
